Iron Shield is the fourth Crayven mission in Ground Control.[1]
Objectives[]
Your infantry can be equipped with RMM-9 Rifle mortars. The grenades has a 20 meter blast radius so use with extreme caution to avoid friendly fire.
- Defend the passage and do not let any Order slip through your defenses.
Events[]
Enrica Hayes tasks Major Sarah Parker with defending the White Asem Research Facility in the Oracle Dunes. Order dropships had slipped under Crayven radar and mounted a surprise attack. Hayes had already lost contact with Major Mackenzie's division, which had been ordered to hold a strategic pass at all costs. Major Parker was to replace Mackenzie, with the same objective.
Major Parker was able to hold off the attack, as well as a secondary attack approaching the base from the opposite direction. She was disturbed by the suicidal resolve of the Order soldiers, and theorized that the research facility was getting close to something valuable.
Walkthrough[]
Strangely, the mission blurb informs the player that marines may now be equipped with mortars, even though they could already do so two missions ago. The player is granted another squad of terradynes. There is no need to seek Order forces, as they head toward the player. Lining up the troops on advantageous terrain helps maximize damage and minimize casualties.
After some time of sending waves of units at the player, the player is informed that the Order has one howitzer unit. The howitzer is in fact a turret that is out of range of the area the player is ordered to defend, so it can be safely ignored until other objectives have been met. Approaching it slowly is dangerous as its firepower can destroy infantry or light terradynes with just a few hits. Rushing it with the light terradynes should kill it with no casualties, though it is lightly guarded by some OCRU-1001 Crusaders.
The Order then attacks the Crayven base from the north (though this attack can be triggered early if the player sends forces north earlier). After the player rushes to defend the base and destroys the new attackers, the mission is won.
